There is no Fee to Participate in Showcases.
It is a free feature designed to give parents, teachers and other adults involved in child development the opportunity to see what is available for young children and to replicate what is suitable for their child, school or community. Every submission will credit the person responsible for the submission and include an active link to that person?s website, blog, or social media site.

MEXICO CITY ? Thousands of federal police officers sent to help patrol the border city of Ciudad Juarez will start leaving in September, the violence-wracked city's mayor said Tuesday.
Mayor Hector Murguia told the press in a statement that the decision to withdraw 5,000 federal agents was made by federal officials who say the city is under control. Federal police took over the city in April 2010 after soldiers were withdrawn amid abuse of power accusations.
Murguia said security will be turned over to local police officers. The city has gone through extensive efforts to get rid of officers working for drug cartels.
The Sinaloa and Juarez drug cartels have been fighting for control of the city, which neighbors El Paso, Texas.
More than 6,000 people have been killed since 2008 but homicides began declining this year. The mayor hopes those improving fortunes will help rehabilitate the city's image.

Study Finds Sexual Anxiety, Personality Are Predictors Of ...

People with sexual performance anxiety are more likely to cheat on their partners. That?s just one of the curious findings of a new study by a University of Guelph professor on the factors that predict infidelity.
Men who are risk-takers or easily sexually aroused are also more likely to wander; for women, relationship issues are stronger predictors of unfaithfulness.
The study, published recently in the journal Archives of Sexual Behaviour, is the first to look at how demographics, interpersonal factors and sexual personality affect infidelity.
For both men and women, personality characteristics and interpersonal factors are more relevant predictors than are religion, marital status, education or gender.
"Few studies on infidelity have gone beyond exploring demographics," said Robin Milhausen, a professor and sexuality researcher in Guelph?s Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition who conducted the study with Kristen Mark and Erick Janssen of Indiana University.
"This research shows that demographic variables may not influence decision-making as much as previously thought ? that personality matters more, especially for men."
The study involved 506 men and 412 women who reported being in monogamous sexual relationships lasting from three months to 43 years. Participants were asked to report on demographic variables such as religion, education and income. They also completed scales that measured sexual personality variables and answered questions about their relationships.
The study found little difference in rates of infidelity reported by men and women (23 and 19 per cent, respectively). But different things predicted the behaviour for men and women.
For men, significant predictors of infidelity are personality variables, including propensity for sexual excitation (becoming easily aroused by many triggers and situations) and concern about sexual performance failure.
The latter finding might seem counterintuitive, Milhausen said, but other studies have also found this connection. "People might seek out high-risk situations to help them become aroused, or they might choose to have sex with a partner outside of their regular relationship because they feel they have an ?out? if the encounter doesn?t go well ? they don?t have to see them again."
For women, relationship happiness is paramount. Women who are dissatisfied with their relationship are more than twice as likely to cheat; those who feel they are sexually incompatible with their partners are nearly three times as likely.
"All kinds of things predict infidelity," Milhausen said. "What this study says is that when you put all of those things together, for men, personality characteristics are so strong, they bounce everything else out of the model. For women, in the face of all other variables, it?s still the relationship that is the most important predictor."
Milhausen cautions against misinterpreting or overemphasizing the study?s findings. "Taken at face value, this research might seem to just support sexual stereotypes: Women are just concerned about the relationship, and, for men, once a cheater, always a cheater, regardless of their relationship. But the caveat is that there are a lot of variants and factors that are not explained here that might impact whether someone cheats."
Still, knowing that sexual personality characteristics ? and, for women, relationship factors ? are strong predictors suggests directions for therapeutic interventions, she said.
Milhausen, who joined U of G in 2006 did her PhD at Indiana University, home of the renowned Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction, where co-author Janssen is a researcher. Mark, the study?s lead author and a PhD student at Indiana?s University Centre for Sexual Health Promotion, is Milhausen?s former graduate student.

My do's and don'ts of motherhood | South Bend Tribune Blogs
Meagan Church is a writer, a reader, a black coffee drinker; a runner, a golfer and a lover of nature; a wife, a mother and a wanna-be world changer. Her blog, DefiningMotherhood.com, explores her role as a mother of two toddlers, outside of clich?s and inside the reality of it all. I just read a post on Meagan Francis? blog The Happiest Mom that has inspired my own post.
Francis listed things she does not do as a mom, including crafts and playing Candyland. And she makes no apologies. It got me to thinking of the things that I have chosen to do and not to do as a parent. I do some things that other parents might find strange and even restrictive at times. Likewise, I don?t do things that I?m sure others enjoy or make time for. Of course my lists don?t fit everyone. But they fit our family, our choices and our priorities.
A few dos:
- Cloth diaper
- Make birthday video montages
- Encourage free play
- Limit TV watching to two hours per day (typically)
- Eat organically (as much as possible)
- Cook meals from scratch (most of the time)
- Keep a fairly orderly house (for the most part)
- Spend time in nature (often)
And now some don?ts:
- Scrapbook
- Join a play/moms group
- Iron
- Vacuum and mop frequently?even with two kids and three pets
- Organize activities and projects for the kids
- Take the kids on outings alone (especially if they cost money)
- Throw elaborate birthday parties
- Take them to library storytimes
- Sign them up for sports that cramp my schedule
To me, the important thing in parenthood isn?t about whether or not red dye #40 crosses their lips (though I might prefer it doesn?t) or if my kids have the opportunity to test out every sport imaginable (after all, tennis is all that really matters).
I?m not in this to be any sort of supermom who does it all, while wearing heels and a smile. To me parenthood is more about realizing who you are and who your kids are, and falling into the rhythm that allows you to grow together in a way that enriches your lives.Will our lists change over time? I?m sure they will. But, as long as we stay true to ourselves and our priorities, we can roll with those changes. No capes, heels or forced smiles required.

Deal or no deal? US downgrade looking likely (AP)
NEW YORK ? Could the U.S. lose its top credit rating even if a deal is reached to raise the debt limit? Market analysts and investors increasingly say yes. The outcome won't be quite as scary as a default, but financial markets would still take a blow. Mortgage rates could rise. States and cities, already strapped, could find it more difficult to borrow. Stocks could lose their gains for the year.
"At this point, we're more concerned about the risk of a downgrade than a default," said Terry Belton, global head of fixed income strategy at JPMorgan Chase. In a conference call with reporters Tuesday, Belton said the loss of the country's AAA rating may rattle markets, but it's "better than missing an interest payment."
Even with a deadline to raise the U.S. debt limit less than a week away, many investors still believe Washington will pull off a last-minute deal to avoid a catastrophic default. Washington has until Aug. 2 to raise the country's $14.3 trillion borrowing limit or risk missing a payment on its debt. President Barack Obama and Congressional Republicans have failed to reach an agreement to raise the debt ceiling and pass a larger budget-cutting package. Politicians have tied raising the debt limit and spending cuts together.
But at least one credit rating agency has already made it clear that unless that agreement includes at least $4 trillion in budget cuts over the next decade, the country's AAA rating could be lost. Right now, the proposals under discussion cut around $2 trillion or less.
Standard & Poor's warned earlier this month that there was a 50-50 chance of a downgrade, if Congress and President Obama failed to find a "credible solution to the rising U.S. government debt burden." S&P said it may cut the U.S. rating to AA within 90 days. Passing a $4 trillion agreement could prevent a downgrade, S&P said.
The other chief rating agency, Moody's Investors Service, said the U.S. government would likely keep its top rating if it avoids a default.
Spokesmen from both Moody's and S&P said they wouldn't comment beyond their recent reports.
JPMorgan's Belton said clients have started asking how markets will respond if the U.S. loses its AAA rating. A drop to AA will mean permanently higher borrowing costs for the U.S. government, he said. And because government lending rates act as a floor for other lending rates, mortgages, student loans, corporate debt and other types of loans will become more expensive.
Belton estimates that borrowing costs would rise between 0.60 to 0.70 points. That may not sound like much. But mortgage interest rates, which have hovered around 4.5 percent for the last several weeks, could rise by at least that amount, to more than 5.1 percent.
And for the federal government, it eventually means an extra $100 billion in interest payments to Treasury holders like China each year.
"That's a huge number," Belton said. That $100 billion a year that could be spent elsewhere on everything from education to infrastructure.
An increase in interest rates could soon become a drag on other parts of the economy, experts say. State governments and insurance agencies would also be downgraded ? and states are already having financial troubles. Business confidence could sink again, leading to prolonged high unemployment.
But some investors aren't unhappy about the thought of a U.S. debt downgrade. Don Quigley, manager of the $1.5 billion Artio Total Return Bond fund reasons that such a move could provide a buying opportunity. He believes that a downgrade would immediately send the yield of the 10-year bond up to 3.15 percent from its current level of about 3 percent.
If the economy sinks further in part because of higher interest rates, investors would very likely return to buying bonds, Quigley said. That's what they've done during the last several years both during the financial crisis and recession, and again the last several months as the economic recovery has slowed.
Treasurys would keep their allure, in part, because there are few alternatives for large foreign buyers looking for a market big enough to handle massive investments.
"The German market is not big enough and Japan has its own problems," Quigley said.
A cut to the U.S. credit rating could hit stocks harder than bonds. A study by Janney Montgomery Scott looked at rating changes to countries over the past decade. After Spain was downgraded in 2009, Spain's stock market fell 8 percent in three months. A cut to Japan's credit rating in 2011 knocked the country's stock market down 3.4 percent in three months. The study, released in April, suggested the S&P 500 would fall 6 percent after a U.S. downgrade, erasing all its gains for the year.

The new food range includes options such as chipotle chicken wraps, sesame noodles and salumi and cheese.
Starbucks is launching its new range in grab-and-go boxes that each contain less than 500 calories.
The snack options include:
Chipotle Chicken Wraps: Grilled chipotle-spiced chicken, pepper jack cheese, whole wheat tortillas served with lime-cilantro slaw, avocado, and roasted tomato salsa -?380 calories
Starbucks is launching its new Bistro range in grab-and-go boxes
Sesame Noodles: Sesame noodle salad tossed with broccoli florets, carrots, red peppers, sugar snap peas and a peanut dressing, served with a cucumber carrot salad, crunchy sesame peanuts and baked tofu with slightly spiced lime glaze -?350 calories.

This weekend my Mother-In-Law had the MOST perfect and beautiful baby shower for us in her beautiful and newly (I?m not completely sure she actually has moved in yet) renovated home in Sausalito. ?In fact, her house was a bigger hit then my very quickly growing bump.
I should start by saying that Alex and I didn?t even register for our wedding. ?We felt like we had plenty of things and really wanted our guests to enjoy themselves and celebrate with us, not worry so much about giving us something. ?We had lots of generous donations made in my dad?s name to AMFAR but, as far as china and bath towels, I couldn?t have been less interested. ?This was?NOT the case with the baby shower.
I?m not sure exactly what?s been going on in this head of mine but, I have been a little psychotically obsessed with registering for this little lad of ours. ?My sister and Alex both think I?ve lost my mind. All that I have been thinking is that if I do not have a year?s wardrobe along with a full and decorated nursery complete by Labor Day, then I?ve already failed as a mother until the end of time. ?As luck would have it, my amazing friends and family stocked the baby shower within an inch of my life.
Aside from the gorgeous decorations, fun table treats (little trains, finger puppets, flowers, planes and lots more!) delicious lunch ( I think I ate my weight in arancini) and beautiful guests; it was a perfect afternoon of catching up with friends.
I never in my life thought I would be excited about a diaper pail (its airtight and odor free) infant bathtub (it has a thermostat) beach tent (it has SPF 50 UV protection, obviously from my sister) or a car seat (it spins so you don?t have to lean too much) BUT ? I kid you not, I am not only excited, I am obsessed.
I couldn?t be a luckier duck then I am to have not only had the PERFECT baby shower, friends and family but, also to have been given 3 truck loads of gifts to occupy my organizing obsession.

India suspended a four-year peace process with Pakistan after attacks on its financial capital Mumbai killed 166 people in November 2008.
But in February, India and Pakistan announced that peace talks would resume. Saturday's discussions came after the Indian home minister told SAARC that countries cannot evade responsibility for acts of terrorism in what was seen as a veiled swipe at Pakistan.
Pakistan has blamed so called "non-state actors" for the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
New Delhi has accused the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba Islamist guerrilla group and Pakistani state intelligence agencies of responsibility for the carnage.
"The distinction between state actors and non-state actors is misplaced," Chidambaram told SAARC which groups Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
