HBA of Greater Cleveland Presents 2011 ... - Virtual Real Estate Mall

CLEVELAND, Sept. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ ? Homebuilders often get questions asking "How do you build green?" or "How much more does it cost to build green?" The fact is there are many different ways to build green depending on your specific goals. This fall the Home Builders Association (HBA) of Greater Cleveland is holding their third annual Green Home Tour. The Tour allows homeowners to see firsthand northeast Ohio homes that demonstrate energy efficiency; sustainability practices; green interior design; and construction using environmentally friendly materials.

The Green Home Tour will take homeowners from Concord to LaGrange while showcasing six beautiful, green friendly homes depicting a myriad of styles, designs and price ranges. Mike Payne, Vice President of Operations for Payne & Payne Builders is chairman of the HBA's Green Building Initiative (GBI) and this year's Green Home Tour.

Payne says, "The goals of the GBI are to encourage green-building practices within the local industry and promote builders who are on the forefront of green building while serving as an educational resource for HBA members and consumers."

Among the new homes in the tour is a one-of-a-kind 7400 square foot green home built with reclaimed wood from a 140 year-old barn. The original barn beams used throughout the home give it familial warmth while the spacious kitchen showcases the latest in energy efficient appliances. There is also a powder room containing a 1,200 pound tree trunk that serves as a vanity complete with a copper vessel sink and gravel stone flooring.

Other homes on the tour showcase industry leading insulation products and techniques along with ultra-efficient mechanical equipment that can help cut energy bills in half. Additional green aspects of some of the homes promote cleaner indoor air quality and less home maintenance. ? ?

The Tour takes place over three weekends ? September 17 and 18; September 24 and 25; and October 1st and 2nd and the hours are noon to 6 p.m. Admission is FREE.
